The launch of KCA Technical College strategic plan comes at a timely moment. The world remains on tip toe to witness the achievement of sustainable societies and economies. Sustainable Development Goal 4 on Education calls on Members States to “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all”.
The UNESCO Strategy for TVET for 2016-2021 launched in Bonn on 15 July 2016 focuses on the role of TVET institutions world over. TVET is concerned with the acquisition of knowledge and skills for the world of work, and is expected to help youth and adults develop the skills they need for employment, decent work and entrepreneurship, promoting equitable, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, and supporting transitions to green economies and environmental sustainability.
The clamor for TVET comes against a background of globalization and rapid technological development, characterized by changes in economic, labor market and skills patterns. There is a renewed sense of urgency and a need for TVET to adapt, respond and transform itself so as to be relevant and valuable.
